Yestermorrow’s courses are specifically designed to demystify the designing and building processes using hands-on, experiential learning to teach students the art and wisdom of good design and the skill and savvy of enduring craftsmanship as a single, integrated process.

Raised in the Mad River Valley, Charlotte is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. She started her career as a glass artist and was most recently the Founding Programming Director of the Glass Studio at Chrysler Museum of Art. There, Charlotte founded and mentored the Assistantship program and has taught glass and new media courses at Universities and summer programs such as Penland School of Crafts and The Oxbow School.

Another facet to Potter’s practice is to bring contemporary art into the public and create opportunities for viewing art in the collective space. Potter has co-founded two performance glass troupes, Cirque de Verre and the Glass Theater as well as being a co-founder of the Neon Arts District in Norfolk, VA, the director of Grand Point Weird, a contemporary art component to the Grand Point North Music Festival in Burlington, VT. She has served on the Glass Art Society Board and was the co-chair of the 2017 Glass Art Society Conference. Her work has been exhibited internationally at galleries, museums and universities and is included in numerous public museum and private permanent collections.

As Charlotte joins Yestermorrow Design/Build School as Executive Director, she will be responsible for all aspects of the school’s operations, expanding programs and outreach while maintaining the high quality of current programs, and attracting significant new resources and talent to this well-established, growing nonprofit organization.

OVERVIEW:

The Senior Director Talent Administration will report to the National Director of Human Resources. In partnership with other HR leadership, this person will be responsible for designing and implementing Year Up human resources strategies, and has primary responsibility for key areas, such as: HR policy development/implementation/interpretation; employment processing; compensation; health and welfare benefits; records management; safety and health; employee relations and conflict resolution; and employment related compliance to support the organization’s rapid growth and expansion across the country. From defining systems and processes to strategizing, this person will communicate with key stakeholders about Year Up’s total compensation and employee relations strategies, goals, and overall vision. The incumbent will be the primary HR partner for the HRIS team in regard to ADP HRIS-related matters and manage our HR Help function (knowledge management and HR Help team capabilities). The Senior Director Talent Administration will also manage a growing team of HR Generalists and HR Business Partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Personnel Policies and Risk Management

  • Accountable for standardization, development, communication, and management of personnel policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure personnel policies and procedures advance the organization’s mission, integrate Year Up’s core values, increase organizational effectiveness, and sustain an equitable and inclusive workplace

Compensation and Benefits

  • Effectively partner with organizational leaders to manage, consult and resolve compensation issues through the use of creative and strategic guidance
  • Research best practices and trends, and perform deep analysis on effectiveness and competiveness of existing compensation and benefits programs –presenting findings and alternative solutions that are cost effective and consistent with Year Up’s core values, mission and compensation philosophy
  • Stay abreast of and ensure compliance with evolving Federal and state compensation-related legislation
  • Work closely with benefits brokers to design market-competitive benefits programs, manage annual benefit renewal process, and evaluate effectiveness of programs
  • Ensure effective management of Leave of Absences, including tracking time, coordination of benefits, communication with the employee, managers, and HR Information Systems team
  • Oversee communication strategy for specific benefits (open enrollment, retirement, professional development, paid time off) and develop employee education programs to ensure employees understand benefits, their value, and available resources

Employee Relations

  • Oversee the HR Business Partner team, collaborating with HRBPs to establish scalable tools and practices that empower their organizational training, performance, engagement, and development programs
  • Lead and develop a team of high-performing individuals, as the HRBP arm is grown
  • Act as an employee advocate and protects the interest of employees in accordance with the Year Up’s Human Resources policies and appropriate governmental laws and regulations
  • Use data and apply analytics skills to formulate people insights and recommendations; diagnose trends and root causes influencing employee relations to drive the development and execution of quality solutions
  • Serve as the chief architect and implementer of YU policies, practices and approaches for resolving employee conflicts/disputes/etc.
  • Partner with HR Leads to establish and track HR metrics that reflect a fact-based, comprehensive method for valuing the contributions

Systems and Processes

  • Responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of all HR personnel administrative matters, guided by the implementation of HR procedures and policies as directed by the Chief Operating Officer
  • Ensure that HR database accurately reflects the staff records, and conforms to organizational policies regarding confidentiality, access, and document retention
  • Partner with the HRIS team and other National Human Resource sub-teams to ensure HRIS improvements are regularly occurring, and HR analytics are readily available, as needed by the business

Provide Strategic HR Partnership

  • Actively participate on the HR leadership team to develop the strategic HR business plan and talent priorities, and to assist with increasing HR’s overall effectiveness
  • Participate in the annual budget process through developing and managing the budget for benefits
  • Oversees and is responsible for projects and priorities within sub-team purview
  • Serve as a valued advisor and partner by providing influential counsel and guidance to business leaders across the organization

Team Management & Support

  • Lead, mentor, and develop National Talent Administration, including: support the professional development of team members; manage the hiring of new team members; and identify future talent acquisition needs
  • Lead team to ensure right level of partnership with sites across the country around Talent Administration matters
  • Create and communicate Talent Administration goals to the organization, while holding staff accountable to meeting measurable targets and goals
  • Manage National Talent Administration budget, including negotiating fees with partners, reviewing contracts and identifying cost saving opportunities

Site Team/Learning Community Member

  • Serve as a coach /mentor for a small number of current students
  • Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6+ years’ experience in HR and employee relations or compensation & benefits fields strongly preferred

Job Overview:

The Executive Director is responsible for the fiscal, programmatic and functional health of Yestermorrow Design/Build School, in addition to advocating for its mission and being a steward of its reputation.

Specifically, the Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of the school’s operations, expanding programs and outreach while maintaining the high quality of current programs, and attracting significant new resources and talent to this well-established, growing nonprofit organization.

Operational responsibilities will include:

Operations & Staff Management

  • Management and development of the office and facility staff, which range from 8-18 members throughout the year, plus an additional 100+ external faculty members.
  • Direct supervision for all key staff across departments. Prioritize staff’s work plans, guide departmental budgeting/goal setting, ensure mission-alignment and financial sustainability with all staff and projects
  • Lead the organization on a day-to-day basis, troubleshooting and quickly responding to any issues that may arise
  • Manage all external vendors and operations-related contracts, including computer systems, office equipment, and facilities maintenance

Financial Management

  • Financial guidance and forecasting, in conjunction with the Board of Directors
  • Preparation of monthly Executive Committee and quarterly financial Board reports
  • Support the Financial and Administrative Assistant with accounts payable (vendor invoices), Accounts Receivable (student and client invoices and income), manage cash receipts and banking
  • Manage bi-weekly payroll, employee benefits, 941 monthly tax deposits, quarterly tax reports, annual W2 and 1099s
  • Oversee all organizational purchases and inventory management

Human Resources

  • Recruit, screen, interview and hire staff
  • Manage employee benefit plans (health, vision, dental, meal program, and PTO). Ensure all benefits programs are up to date and make annual recommendations
  • Maintain personnel records, on-board new employees
  • Conduct annual employee reviews

The annual budget for Yestermorrow is currently just over $1 million, and revenue includes earned income from programs as well as philanthropic dollars. The Executive Director will work to identify opportunities to increase revenues both from programs and philanthropy, including:

  • Develop and lead an active fundraising program, including major donor campaigns, special events, grant research and writing, annual appeals, and endowment growth and stewardship
  • Oversee and coordinate ongoing capital campaign
  • Guide efforts to reach new audiences by directing marketing and outreach strategy (with staff support). Travel to present to diverse audiences about Yestermorrow’s mission, programs, and impact.
  • Initiate, develop and support strategic initiatives, partnerships, and collaborations with appropriate institutions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Yestermorrow is a design school where design thinking is fully integrated with making – the way artists work. The successful ED will have experience and interest in the design/build process or related creative or artistic fields.

The Executive Director must be a strategic thinker, a decisive manager, a proven team builder, and a compelling communicator He/she must have demonstrated experience as an Executive Director or equivalent leadership position, managing comparable staff and budgets, contracts, fiscal reporting, fundraising, outreach and marketing, and organizational development, as well as liaising with boards. The position requires someone with a talent for articulating new opportunities, and a track record of implementing them.

Search Success! Rina Lal Joins Reading Partners as Revenue Accounting Manager!

Pillar Search & HR Consulting is pleased to announce the successful completion of the search for Reading Partner’s new Revenue Accounting Manager and the appointment of Rina Lal to that role.  Reading Partners mobilizes communities to provide students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by fourth grade. Reading Partners works with under-resourced schools and engages volunteer reading partners to work one-on-one with students who struggle with reading.    

Rina joins Reading Partners from Energy Recovery, Inc., where she is the Revenue Manager and earlier was their Senior Revenue Accountant. Prior roles included Senior Revenue Accountant with Leapfrog and Revenue Accountant with i365/Seagate Technologies, General Ledger Accountant with Yoga Journal, and Accounts Payable Supervisor with Restoration Hardware.

Pillar Search is pleased to announce the placement of Brenda Dupré as Associate Director of Partner Relations with Year Up.

 

Year Up is an award-winning national 501(c)3 organization striving to close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban young adults ages 18-24 with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education. Through a one-year intensive training program, these young adults complete a unique combination of rigorous, hands-on technical and professional skills training, college credit, and corporate internships.

 

As a member of the Year Up Los Angeles team, Brenda will manage existing partner relationships, facilitating day-to-day interactions between Year Up, interns and corporate partners to create mutually beneficial business relationships. As part of the Corporate Engagement team, Brenda will help to connect top corporations in need of talent with high-potential urban young adults, ensuring high levels of partner satisfaction. Brenda brings extensive sales, marketing, and client service experience to her role with Year Up.  Most recently, she was a Global Account Manager with the U.S. Postal Service.  Her prior professional experience includes Regional Director, Recruitment and Corporate Relations with Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management.  Earlier in her career, Brenda owned and operated Winning Combination, a boutique firm that consulted with Los Angeles-area nonprofit organizations.   Brenda completed her undergraduate studies at California State University at Long Beach, her graduate studies at West Coast University, and holds a certificate in Human Resources Management from California State University.  She is a long-time volunteer with the Taproot Foundation.

Deborah has extensive experience in sales and account management, and has worked with companies such as Brafton, Aberdeen Group, Nth Degree Events, and Monster. Deborah earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Boston University.
